DAHON K3 [Cycling] Takeda Castle, the Castle in the Sky and Ikuno Silver Mine

We started from Wadayama Station, the central station of Asago City. In winter, the entrance to Takeda Castle is restricted, so we headed for Yamashiro-no-Sato. From Yamashiro-no-Sato, we walked to Takeda Castle, and after sightseeing, we headed south along the Bantan Line to Ikuno Station. Although the Ikuno area is also in Asago City, it feels deeper in the mountains than the Wadayama area. You can feel the townscape that prospered due to the Ikuno Silver Mine. We were also able to tour the Ikuno Silver Mine during the New Year holidays.

The Wadayama area is a thriving area in Asago City, with hotels, supermarkets, restaurants, and more. Leaving the hotel in Wadayama, we headed to Yamashiro-no-Sato, the starting point of Takeda Castle. It was just over 5km, so it was an easy run. I thought it would be a bit more uphill, but it was mostly flat.

Leaving Takeda Castle, we headed to Takeda Station. The townscape of Takeda seems to have become quite touristy, but it was quite clean and charming.

From Wadayama to Ikuno. Although it is the same city, it was originally divided into Wadayama Town and Ikuno Town, and the distance is nearly 20 km. I thought I would be riding on mountain roads, but it was surprisingly flat. Also, the Bantan Line runs through the area, although it is not frequent, so I felt safe knowing that I could quickly catch a train if I had any bicycle trouble. There are mountains to both the west and east, but the area along National Route 312 was a valley and flat. The Ikuno area is a quiet mountain village, and the remains of the area's prosperity as a silver mine can be seen here and there. I rode through the town of Ikuno and then took a train from Ikuno Station towards Himeji.
