長いタイトルですが、それくらい変化と欲張りのあるルート。茨城県北部の中心都市である日立市。美しい日立駅からの景色を楽しみ、サイクリングスタート。日立市は海まで山が迫っており、海から離れるとすぐ山道です。茨城県屈指のパワーすっぽとである御岩神社を目指します。その途中にあるのが、JX金属の日鉱記念館です。日立製作所が発祥の場所でもあります。御岩神社を過ぎると、下り基調になりやっと登りから解放されます。国道349号線まで西進し、国道349号線に入るとずっと南進をし、徳川光圀が晩年を過ごした西山荘に寄って戻りました。
It's a long title, but the route is full of variety and ambition. Hitachi City is the central city in northern Ibaraki Prefecture. We started cycling after enjoying the beautiful scenery from Hitachi Station. The mountains are right up to the sea in Hitachi City, and as soon as we leave the sea, we are on a mountain path. We head for Oiwa Shrine, one of the most powerful shrines in Ibaraki Prefecture. On the way there is the Nippon Mining Memorial Museum of JX Metals. It is also the birthplace of Hitachi, Ltd. After passing Oiwa Shrine, the road starts to go downhill and we are finally free from the climb. We head west to National Route 349, and once on National Route 349, we head all the way south, stopping at Nishiyamaso, where Tokugawa Mitsukuni spent his later years, before returning.
日立駅からの景色はほどほどに、日鉱記念館、御岩神社のある県道36号線を目指します。助川鹿島神社に寄り、山登りです。日立は快晴で、ずっと天気も良かったのですが、日鉱記念館付近では雪が積もっておりました。日鉱記念館から御岩神社まではほぼ平坦になります。トンネルがあるので注意して走りたいです。
After enjoying the moderate scenery from Hitachi Station, we headed towards Prefectural Route 36, where the Nippon Mining Memorial Museum and Oiwa Shrine are located. We stopped by Sukegawa Kashima Shrine and then started climbing the mountain. It was a clear day in Hitachi, and the weather was good throughout the day, but there was snow piled up near the Nippon Mining Memorial Museum. The road from the Nippon Mining Memorial Museum to Oiwa Shrine is mostly flat. There is a tunnel, so you should drive carefully.

日鉱記念館付近
日鉱記念館から御岩神社まではトンネルを経て15分足らずでつけます。御岩神社は近年茨城県屈指のパワースポットとして人気があります。実際に行ってみて、参拝客の多さに驚きました。
It takes less than 15 minutes to get from the Nippon Mining Memorial Museum to Oiwa Shrine via a tunnel. In recent years, Oiwa Shrine has become popular as one of the most powerful spots in Ibaraki Prefecture. When I actually went there, I was surprised by the number of visitors.
御岩神社から常陸太田市の西山荘を目指します。のどかな里山の風景ですが、途中朝ドラのロケ地として使われた旧町屋変電所など、見所があります。また、棚倉街道と呼ばれる街道沿いを走るため、歴史を感じる景色と、里山の景色を感じることができます。特に、常陸太田市の鯨が丘と呼ばれるエリアはよい雰囲気を醸し出しております。
常陸太田市の中心地に入り、西山荘を回って、帰りは常陸太田駅から戻るか、上菅谷まで行くのか、水戸駅まで行くのかは時間次第です。
From Oiwa Shrine, head for Nishiyamaso in Hitachiota City. The scenery is peaceful and rural, but there are some interesting sights along the way, such as the old Machiya substation, which was used as a location for a morning drama. The route also runs along a road called Tanagura Kaido, so you can experience both historical and rural scenery. In particular, the area called Kujiragaoka in Hitachiota City exudes a great atmosphere.
Once you enter the center of Hitachiota City, go around Nishiyamaso, and on the way back, it depends on the time you have whether you return from Hitachiota Station, go to Kamisugaya, or go to Mito Station.
