高崎駅から、下仁田駅まで約35㎞の道のりを走る上信電鉄。おおよそ、国道254号線沿いを走るローカル線。沿線には、富岡製糸場や、城下町小幡、上州貫前神社一の宮などの観光地もちらほら。
それらの観光地は無視して、西野牧エリアから姫街道（紅葉ライン）を経由して軽井沢を目指したのでしたが、姫街道分岐地点で、折り返して下仁田駅から上信電鉄に乗り戻りました。8月15日でしたので、暑さの中のヒルクライムは厳しいと思ったのと、寄り道しすぎて時間が無くなり、距離が出すぎたことが原因ですね。
The Joshin Dentetsu line runs approximately 35km from Takasaki Station to Shimonita Station. It's a local line that roughly follows National Route 254. Along the line, there are a few tourist spots, such as the Tomioka Silk Mill, the castle town of Obata, and Joshu Nukisaki Shrine Ichinomiya.
Ignoring these tourist spots, I headed for Karuizawa from the Nishinomaki area via the Hime Kaido (Momiji Line), but at the Hime Kaido junction, I turned back and hopped back on the Joshin Dentetsu line from Shimonita Station. It was August 15th, so I thought a hill climb in the heat would be tough, plus I made too many detours and ran out of time, which meant the distance was too long.
高崎駅を出てまず目指したのが山名八幡宮です。700件を超える口コミがあり、山名駅もあるなど、ちょっと有名どころなのかと思い立ち寄りました。神社は、ちょっとした高台にあったり、立地がいい場合が多いので、大きめのの神社があれば立ち寄ることにしております。
The first place I headed for after leaving Takasaki Station was Yamana Hachimangu Shrine. It has over 700 reviews, and Yamana Station is nearby, so I thought it might be a bit of a famous place, so I stopped by. Shrines are often located on slightly elevated ground or in good locations, so I make it a point to stop by any larger shrines I come across.
山名八幡宮を出て、途中に多胡碑というものがあり立ち寄ってみました。歴史的には大変貴重で博物館も隣接しております。国道254号線を西に向かい、途中南進して道の駅間らで一休み。近くに「アダルト保育園」なる謎のものが地図に出てきたので、少しロスしますが寄ってみました。
Leaving Yamana Hachiman Shrine, I stopped by the Tako Monument on the way. It is a very valuable historical monument and has a museum next door. I headed west on National Route 254, then headed south and took a break at a roadside station. I noticed a mysterious "adult nursery school" on the map nearby, so I decided to stop by, even though it would cost me a bit of time.
本宿エリアまで行き、姫街道を登るつもりでした、ラーメンショップがお盆休みでエネルギー補給に失敗し、引き返しました。上信電鉄に乗れて楽しかったのと、本宿エリアの町並みが意外と古い宿場町のようでよかったです。
I had planned to go to the Honjuku area and climb the Hime-kaido road, but the ramen shop was closed for the Obon festival, so I couldn't refuel and turned back. I had fun riding the Joshin Dentetsu line, and the townscape of the Honjuku area was surprisingly like an old post town, which was nice.
