Continuing from yesterday, I set off on my bicycle pilgrimage. Before that, I climbed Mt. Bizan, a symbol of Tokushima. It's less than 300 meters high, but the slope is not too steep. I managed to climb all the way to the parking lot at the summit without touching my feet. After passing through Tokushima City, I visited 18th temple, Onzan-ji, and 19th temple, Tatee-ji. If I'd gone in order, I'd reach 20th temple, Kakurin-ji, but I figured it would be too difficult given the time constraints, so I skipped it and headed for 21st temple, Tairyuji. It's a large temple reached by ropeway. I still had time left, so I went back a little and visited Kakurin-ji as well. I made it to Tsuru Pass, but the last 2 kilometers were a tough climb, and I ended up touching my feet. From Kakurin-ji, I headed back to my hotel in Anan City. It was about 90 kilometers in total, with an elevation gain of 1,100 meters, which was quite strenuous for me.
While I was able to visit Omatsu Daigongen, famous for its beckoning cat, I was disappointed not to be able to visit Kinchō Shrine, famous for its raccoon dog.

First, we headed to Mt. Bizan. Since we were staying near Kuramoto Station, we started climbing from the northwest side of Mt. Bizan (the Tokushima Medical University Hospital side). Once we left the residential area, we soon found ourselves on a mountain path. The distance wasn't that great, so if we put our minds to it, we could reach the summit in under 20 minutes.

You will descend Mt. Bizan in one go and come out onto the mountain trail on the south side. Head south on National Route 55 for a while, enter Komatsushima City, and leave National Route 55 at the entrance to Onzan-ji Temple. It's mostly flat, but there is a slight climb at the end. Once you leave Onzan-ji Temple, Tatsue-ji Temple is close by. Tatsue-ji Temple is a small temple located in a residential area.

Leaving Tatsue-ji Temple, we head inland. We basically drive along the Naka River. Along the way, we stopped at Omatsu Daigongen, home to many beckoning cats. To head to Washinosato Roadside Station, the starting point of the Tairyuji Ropeway, we were unsure whether to take Prefectural Route 28 to National Route 195 or drive along the Naka River. We chose the latter. The road was in poor condition and we ended up driving nearly 10 km through areas with few houses.

Tairyuji Temple is a very large temple. It is associated with Kobo Daishi, and even among the 88 temples of Shikoku, it has a special aura.

I returned along the Naka River and drove to the fork to Tsuru Pass (Prefectural Route 283). I rode along the left bank, but the road conditions were not as good as on the right bank. From Prefectural Route 283, I continued to climb up to Tsuru Pass. It was less than 2km from Tsuru Pass to Kakurinji Temple, but the slope became even steeper. I was exhausted, so I had to push my bike a bit.
