琵琶湖と並んでサイクリストの聖地となっているしまなみ海道。バス、バイクでは何度も渡っているしまなみ海道ですが、自転車で走るのは初めて。最短距離ですと76㎞ですが、下りたことのない伯方島をほぼ1周したので、距離は105㎞に伸びました。
冬で日の入りが早いので走り切れるのか心配でしたが、北風に乗れたこともあり、伯方島周回ルートも走り切れました。9時の出発で今治駅には17時の到着でした。
Along with Lake Biwa, the Shimanami Kaido is a sacred place for cyclists. I've crossed the Shimanami Kaido many times by bus and bike, but this was my first time riding a bike. The shortest distance is 76km, but since I went around Hakata Island, which I had never been to before, the distance increased to 105km.
Since it was winter and the sun set early, I was worried about whether I would be able to complete the trip, but I was able to ride the north wind and was able to complete the route around Hakata Island. The train departed at 9am and arrived at Imabari Station at 5pm.
尾道の駅からすぐの渡船に乗り向島にわたります。尾道大橋のルートは危険なのであまり推奨されておりませんし、距離も伸びるので時間もかかってしまいます。1月1日ということもあり、渡船がやっているのか心配でしたが無事営業しておりました。ちなみにレンタルサイクルも大きなポイントでは営業しております。マイナーなレンタルサイクル場はお正月は休みようなので注意しましょう。
渡船を渡り、コースの案内に沿って向島の西側を走ります。岩子島に渡る向島大橋を過ぎると、最初の橋である因島大橋はすぐです。
From Onomichi Station, take a ferry that will take you to Mukojima Island. The Onomichi Bridge route is not recommended as it is dangerous, and it is also long and time consuming. Since it was January 1st, I was worried whether the ferry would be operating, but it was open safely. By the way, rental cycles are also available at major points. Please note that minor bicycle rental places are likely to be closed on New Year's Day.Cross the ferry and follow the course guide to the west side of Mukojima. After passing Mukojima Ohashi Bridge, which crosses over to Iwago Island, the first bridge, Innoshima Ohashi Bridge, is right next to you.
因島は島の西側のルートを選択。最短ルートですと島の真ん中を通るルートになりますが、海沿いのルートを選択しても距離はあまり変わりません。高低差もなく、景色も良さそうなので海沿いのルートを進むことをお勧めします。島の東回りでは距離がかなり増えてしまいますので、かなりの健脚または因島の観光地を巡るのでなければやめた方がよさそうです。
For Innoshima, choose the route on the west side of the island. The shortest route will take you through the middle of the island, but the distance will not change much if you choose the route along the coast. We recommend taking the route along the coast as there is no difference in elevation and the scenery looks good. The distance to the east of the island increases considerably, so unless you are a very good walker or are planning to visit Innoshima's sightseeing spots, it is probably best to skip it.
生口橋を渡り、生口島に入ります。人気のルートは島の西側のルートで瀬戸田の町並みと耕三寺に寄るのが定番ですが、瀬戸田、耕三寺とも行ったことがあるのでわざと東側のルートを選択しました。あまり観光地化されていない島の町並みと瀬戸内海が素晴らしかったです。レモン谷で西側のルートと合流をして一番有名な多々羅大橋を渡り、大三島に渡ります。
Cross Ikuchi Bridge and enter Ikuchi Island. A popular route is the one on the west side of the island that stops at Setoda townscape and Kosanji Temple, but since I have been to both Setoda and Kosanji Temple, I purposely chose the east side route. The townscape of the island and the Seto Inland Sea, which are not much of a tourist destination, were wonderful. It merges with the western route at Lemon Valley, crosses the most famous Tatara Ohashi Bridge, and crosses over to Omishima Island.
多々羅大橋で、広島県から愛媛県に入ります。多々羅大橋の愛媛県側に道の駅多々羅しまなみ公園があり、そこにサイクリストの聖地の像があります。大三島には大山祗神社があり、国宝をたくさん抱える由緒正しい神社ですが、距離的にはかなりのロスとなり、行ったことがあるのでパスしてしまいました。道の駅多々羅しまなみ公園はほぼ中間点になります。
Enter Ehime Prefecture from Hiroshima Prefecture at Tatara Ohashi Bridge. On the Ehime Prefecture side of the Tatara Ohashi Bridge, there is the Roadside Station Tatara Shimanami Park, where there is a statue of a sacred place for cyclists. There is Oyamagi Shrine on Omishima Island, and it is a venerable shrine with many national treasures, but it was a considerable loss in terms of distance, so I passed on it because I had been there before. Roadside Station Tatara Shimanami Park is about the halfway point.
大三島は面積が大きいですが、東側を少し南下するとすぐに大三島橋が見えてきます。しまなみ海道の中で小ぶりな大三島橋を渡ると伯方島です。
伯方島についたときにまだ時間にかなり余裕があったので、伯方島は周回ルートをとることにしました。開山公園は桜の名所とそして有名ですが、この時期はほとんど人がおりませんでした。開山公園の展望台からは、大三島、生口島など通ってきた島に加え、岩城島や弓削島などほかの島々も一望できるので、景色は圧巻です。
Omishima Island is large in area, but if you go a little south on the east side, you will soon see Omishima Bridge. Crossing the small Omishima Bridge on the Shimanami Kaido is Hakata Island.
When we arrived at Hakata Island, we still had quite a bit of time, so we decided to take a circular route around Hakata Island. Kaizan Park is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot, but there were almost no people at this time of year. From the observation deck at Kaizan Park, you can see not only the islands you passed through, such as Omishima and Ikuchijima, but also other islands such as Iwagijima and Yugejima, so the scenery is spectacular.
伯方・大島大橋を渡り、最後に島である大島へ。島の中央を通るのがセオリーですが、景色がよさそうだったので、島の西岸を通りよしうみバラ公園へ。そして、そこから亀老山展望台へ。亀老山への道は残念ながら押して上りました。最後の1キロはかなりの急登です。亀老山展望台を後にし、道の駅よしうみいきいき館で休憩して、最後の来島海峡大橋を渡ります。
Cross the Hakata-Oshima Ohashi Bridge and finally arrive at the island of Oshima. My theory was to go through the center of the island, but since the scenery looked better, I went along the west coast of the island to Yoshiumi Rose Park. From there, head to the Kirosan Observation Deck. Unfortunately, I had to push myself up the road to Mt. Kirosan. The last kilometer is quite a steep climb. After leaving Kirosan Observation Deck, we took a break at the roadside station Yoshiumi Ikiikikan, and then crossed the last Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge.
来島海峡大橋を渡ると四国に入ります。来島海峡大橋の四国側にサンライズ糸山サイクリングセンターがあります。ここに「SHIMANAMI]モニュメントがあります。サンライズ糸山サイクリングセンターからは今治駅までおおよそ7㎞30分です。
Once you cross the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, you will enter Shikoku. Sunrise Itoyama Cycling Center is located on the Shikoku side of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge. Here is the "SHIMANAMI" monument. From Sunrise Itoyama Cycling Center, it takes about 7 km and 30 minutes to get to Imabari Station.
北風に乗れたこともあり、かなり快適な105㎞のサイクリングでした。伯方島の1周をやらなければK3でも十分に一日で走り切れたと思います。また、どうしても走り切れない場合は船でのエスケープもできますので、しっかりと計画を練れば初心者でも行けると思います。また、観光をじっくりしたい方は、途中での宿泊をお勧めします。
I was able to ride the north wind, so it was a pretty comfortable 105km cycling. I think I could have covered K3 in one day if I didn't do one lap around Hakatajima. Also, if you can't run all the way, you can escape by boat, so I think even beginners can go if you plan well. Also, if you want to take your time sightseeing, we recommend staying overnight along the way.
