前回、三夜沢の赤城神社から県道16号線を登り失敗した赤城山ヒルクライム。今回は、王道というべき県道4号線からの登りになります。
前橋駅をスタートし、県道4号線に入ればほぼ一本道。赤城の大鳥居まではほぼ平坦で、前橋市の市内の普通の地方都市を走っている感じです。
大鳥居を過ぎると登りがじりじりと始まります。大鳥居を過ぎて少し過ぎると赤城用水第二サイフォン式円筒分水工が見えてきます。この辺りから登りがきつくなってきます。有名店の桑風庵という蕎麦屋を過ぎると、町中が終わり、本格的に登りになります。
姫百合駐車場までじりじりと登り、そこから赤城白樺牧場までさらに斜度が厳しくなった坂を上ります。赤城白樺牧場がピークで大沼までは下りになります。大沼付近はほぼ平坦で、大沼をあとに小沼に向けて少し登ります。
小沼の少し先が、今回のピークで、そこから先は16号線をひたすら下ります。三夜沢の赤城神社により、帰りは本庄駅まで空っ風に乗って帰りました。下り最高速で65㎞/ｈ出ておりました。
Last time, I tried the Mt. Akagi Hill Climb, which I failed to climb up Prefectural Route 16 from Akagi Shrine in Miyosawa. This time, we will be climbing from Prefectural Route 4, which should be called the royal road.
If you start from Maebashi Station and enter Prefectural Route 4, it's almost a straight road. The road up to Akagi Otorii is mostly flat, and it feels like you're driving through a normal local city within Maebashi City.
After passing the Otorii gate, the climb begins gradually. A little after passing the Otorii gate, you will see the Akagi Irrigation Second Siphon Type Cylindrical Diversion Works. From this point onwards, the climb becomes steeper. Once you pass the famous soba restaurant called Kuwafuan, you'll end up in the middle of town and begin your real uphill climb.
We slowly climbed up to the Himeyuri parking lot, and from there we went up an even steeper slope to Akagi Shirakaba Farm. Akagi Shirakaba Farm is the peak and it is a descent to Onuma. The area around Onuma is mostly flat, and after leaving Onuma there is a slight climb towards Konuma.
The peak for this time is a little beyond Konuma, and from there it's just down Route 16. After visiting Akagi Shrine in Miyazawa, I rode the empty wind back to Honjo Station. The maximum downhill speed was 65km/h.
